Apple made a quiet but significant shift when they moved iPhones to HEIC as the default photo format in iOS 11. Compared to JPG, HEIC files are roughly half the size at the same quality level — which means your photo library takes up less space, and Live Photos stay possible.

But HEIC has a problem: it's an Apple format, and the rest of the world isn't always ready for it.

Why Convert HEIC to JPG?

Compatibility. Pretty much every platform, browser, and app supports JPG. Try uploading a HEIC directly to a website and you'll often get an error or a broken thumbnail. Windows, Android, and Linux don't render HEIC natively without extra software.

Easier sharing. Most messaging apps compress HEIC anyway and convert to JPG on send — but that compression happens automatically and you lose control over quality.

Editing workflows. Many photo editors, graphic design tools, and CMS platforms still don't read HEIC natively.

How to Convert HEIC to JPG

  1. Open imageconvert.polsia.app
  2. Drop your HEIC file onto the converter
  3. Select JPG as the output format
  4. Click Convert & Download

That's it. No account, no upload limit, no waiting.

HEIC vs JPG: Quick Comparison

HEIC JPG
Typical size 40–60% smaller Baseline
Quality Better at same size Standard
Browser support Limited Universal
Transparency No No
Open standard No (Apple/MPEG) Yes

Will Converting Reduce Quality?

Every conversion involves a recompress step, so yes — there is some quality loss. But HEIC-to-JPG conversion at 90%+ quality setting produces results visually indistinguishable from the original on most displays.

The practical fix: don't chain conversions. Convert HEIC → JPG once, work from the JPG.

What About PNG?

If you need transparency or plan to edit further, select PNG as the output instead. PNG preserves more data and avoids the lossy compression that JPG applies.

Quick FAQ

Can I convert multiple HEIC files at once? ImageConvert processes one file per upload. For batch work, you can open multiple tabs or use a script.

Does the file leave my device? Your file is processed server-side and deleted immediately after conversion. Nothing is stored.

Can I convert back from JPG to HEIC? Yes, you can convert JPG back to HEIC, but HEIC is primarily a capture format — reconverting to HEIC from a JPG offers no advantage and may lose quality.

Will my Live Photo data be preserved? The static frame converts fine. The motion component (video portion of a Live Photo) is not preserved in a still image export.
